SUSE has announced that SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications is now available to support IBM Power Systems running the SAP HANA platform. BlueData is undergoing two big changes that will augment its infrastructure software platform. The company is announcing a $20 million Series C funding round led by Intel Capital and a partnership with Intel that will blend together BlueData's infrastructure software for big data with the data center architecture based on Intel Xeon processor technology.

Hortonworks, a provider of enterprise Hadoop, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Onyara, Inc., the creator of and key contributor to Apache NiFi, an open source project. The acquisition will make it easy for customers to automate and secure data flows fueling the fueling the "Internet of Anything (IoAT)" and to collect, conduct and curate real-time business insights and actions derived from data in motion. As a result of the acquisition, Hortonworks is introducing Hortonworks DataFlow powered by Apache NiFi, which was made available through the NSA Technology Transfer Program in the fall of 2014. The Hortonworks acquisition of Onyara is expected to close in the third quarter of 2015.

Ricoh Company, Ltd, the printing and document management company, is using Oracle's SPARC T5 servers with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliances and Oracle Database to analyze data from RICOH @Remote, its real-time support service for customers in more than 100 countries and regions. To unify the data across the company for accurate views and analysis, Ricoh built a private cloud accessible by the entire remote service group that allows high speed access from internal networks.

IBM today announced a significant expansion of the mainframe's strategy of embracing open source-based technologies and open communities. The company disclosed it is shipping two Linux mainframe servers - called LinuxONE - which the company brands as "the most secure Linux servers in the industry." Data integration software provider Informatica has been acquired by a company controlled by the Permira funds and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). Microsoft Corporation and Salesforce Ventures, Salesforce's corporate investment group, are also strategic investors in the company alongside the Permira funds and CPPIB. In making the announcement, Informatica said the new ownership would allow it continue to grow while taking a longer view rather than focusing on quarters.

The company is creating a new public holding company called Alphabet, with Google as well as other companies, housed within the new structure. Shortly after the explosion of non-relational databases, around 2009, it became apparent that rather than being part of the problem, SQL would instead continue to be part of the solution. If the new wave of database systems excluded the vast population of SQL-literate professionals, then their uptake in the business world would be impeded. Furthermore, a whole generation of business intelligence tools use SQL as the common way of translating user information requests into database queries. Nowhere was the drive toward SQL adoption more clear than in the case of Hadoop.
