Datawatch Corporation, a provider of information optimization solutions, has agreed to acquire Panopticon Software AB, a privately held Swedish company specializing in the delivery of real-time visual data discovery solutions. The transaction is expected to be completed before the end of Datawatch's fiscal year September 30. Composite Software has released the Composite Data Virtualization Platform 6.2 SP3. This release really has four elements, Robert Eve, executive vice president of marketing, Composite, tells 5 Minute Briefing. It updates the Hortonworks, Cloudera and the Apache Distribution of Hadoop big data integrations through the HiveServer2 interface, and then fourth, provides new access to Cloudera CDH through Impala. "The key problem with big data is that there are not enough people that are skilled at the big data tools to use them effectively," Eve notes.

Business intelligence and analytics vendor Yellowfin has released the latest version of its BI software, Yellowfin 6.3 with enhancements that focus on three key product areas: collaboration, usability and data visualization. A key new feature of the new release is "Timeline," which enables users to monitor and understand their relationship with BI content and relevant decision-makers. Timeline records users' specific activities and interactions within Yellowfin in real-time. OpenText, a provider of enterprise information management (EIM) software, announced the expansion of the OpenText ECM Suite for SAP Solutions in support of SAP's latest technologies, including the SAP HANA platform, and cloud and mobility solutions. Dell Software's latest release of SharePlex, a data replication solution, has added support for near real-time data integration to drive improved data warehousing, business intelligence and analytics. SharePlex, which has a heritage as an Oracle-to-Oracle data replication solution, now enables customers to replicate Oracle data using CDC to other databases, including structured databases such as SQL Server, DB2, Sybase, Netezza, and Teradata, as well as emerging unstructured databases such as Hadoop and Greenplum.
