Global data center market revenue is expected to reach $342.10 billion by 2023, up from $321.37 billion in 2022, according to Statista. The data center market was valued at $316.30 billion in 2021, up 6% from $298.30 billion in 2020. AWS announced a preview of Amazon Aurora Limitless Database is now available—a new capability supporting automated horizontal scaling to process millions of write transactions per second and manage petabytes of data in a single Aurora database. AWS announced the availability of the Amazon DynamoDB zero-ETL integration with Amazon OpenSearch Service, enabling users to perform a search on their DynamoDB data by automatically replicating and transforming it without custom code or infrastructure. According to AWS, this zero-ETL integration reduces the operational burden and cost involved in writing code for a data pipeline architecture, keeping the data in sync, and updating code with frequent application changes, enabling users to focus on their application.

Aerospike Inc. showcased its superior performance, price, and sustainability gains for real-time applications running on the recently announced Aerospike Database 7 at AWS re:Invent. According to the company, benchmarks of the Aerospike Database and AWS Graviton2 processors show more than 25 million transactions per second at under 1ms—a 1.6x price performance improvement, with 27% lower annual costs and 60% less energy consumption than an equivalent x86 cluster.

The original intention of surrogate keys across multidimensional database designs was to help optimize joins by keeping all keys, used for joining between facts and dimensions, both numeric and single-columned. Often such surrogates were generated as simple sequential numbers, 1, 2, 3…. Early versions of many relational database products had sub-optimal performance when joining data together via character strings—especially large quantities of data.
